Fans itching to get a taste of hockey, no matter who is playing

Without the NHL, hockey fans all over the world are scrambling to get even a glimpse of the sport they all love. For some, minor league hockey is accessible. And many fans flocked to the Dunk in Providence on Friday night to support the Bruins and the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.

Pink in the rink: all fans got a pink rally towel and the players boasted white and pink jerseys. A portion of the ticket went to the Gloria Gemma Foundation.

The NHL is making it difficult for the fans. There is nothing supporters can do except sit on the sidelines and wait. But right now, there are a few ways around not having access to NHL games.

“There’s no hockey, but there’s not anything I can do about,” said Colleen Donovan, a Boston Bruins season ticket holder said on the way to Providence to catch a glimpse of hockey.

On Friday, in Chicago, several NHLers scheduled a charity hockey game that featured stars like Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. The arena was packed and the event raise more than $320,000 for the Ronald McDonald House.

Tonight, Defending the Blue Line is hosting a charity event in Minnesota. Zach Parise, Ryan Suter, Keith Ballard and several other NHLers are playing, just wanting to get a taste of the competitive hockey they all miss.

It isn’t just the fans that miss hockey. The players, the coaches, the employees and even the sponsors all miss it. But right now Gary Bettman and the NHL owners are the puppeteers controlling the game.
